The quality of the finished portrait depends a lot on the quality of the original photograph. Photo #1 below is an example of a photograph that is not an ideal source for a portrait. I will be updating this page with more examples of good and bad photos within the next few weeks.

The wire mesh in this photo is not much of a problem.
The main difficulty is that the animal's face cannot be seen clearly. The
second problem is that the resolution of the photo is very low. If we zoom in
(below), there is very little definition to the ferret's fur.

The zoomed image cannot be used to draw the detail in
the fur. This means that all of the detail will have to come from the original
photo. Since portraits are larger than photos, any portrait produced from this
photo would appear blurred.
